Preliminary assessment

Preliminary assessment is an administrative check of an application conducted for all applications received by the APVMA. This process ensures all applications include the information necessary to proceed to a full evaluation. It should be completed within one month of receipt.

A total of 2241 applications were received through preliminary assessment between July 2015 and June 2016. Of the 2199 processed, 97 per cent of applications passed through to evaluation.

The below table shows that all preliminary assessments for product applications (applications for pesticides and veterinary medicines) were completed within 30 days of receipt. However, 4 per cent of applications for actives were over timeframe, reducing the overall timeframe performance to 99 per cent.
