Regulatory considerations for nanotechnology
In 2015 the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) published the Nanotechnologies for pesticides and veterinary medicines: regulatory considerations—final report. The report marked the culmination of extensive research, consultation and collaboration.
The report considers the benefits and challenges of regulating nanotechnology for use in agriculture and animal husbandry, as advances in nanoscale science, engineering and technology pave the way for developing novel applications, devices and systems.
The report included feedback from a symposium on nanotechnology regulation hosted by the APVMA for national and international representatives from industry, scientists, regulators and the broader community The APVMA will continue to engage with industry and the international scientific community as more consideration of the regulatory approach for nanotechnology products is required.
