Regulatory decision on dimethoate

20 March 2017

Our chemical review of dimethoate has concluded. Australian farmers will continue to have access to this popular insecticide for use on avocado, cereal, citrus, cotton, mango, peanut and pulse crops.

Amended labels approved by the APVMA include uses that have been confirmed as safe, with new safety directions and re-entry instructions to protect workers.

Our final regulatory decision also:

  • restricts the use of dimethoate in oilseed and fodder crops
  • removes approval for the use of dimethoate in the home garden, on some tropical fruit crops and some vegetables.

Our dimethoate regulatory decision contains full details including a list of crop uses that are being retained, removed or amended.
