Chlorpyrifos Proposed Regulatory Decision
On Monday, 24 June 2019, we announced a proposed decision to remove all uses of chlorpyrifos in domestic and home garden products, and in certain public spaces such as parks and footpaths. The proposed decision is to suspend uses of these products after 28 days and cancel these uses after the conclusion of the three-month consultation period.
The proposed decision is the result of a comprehensive review of the chemical’s environmental and health impacts and is consistent with overseas regulators.
We are also opening a consultation period with those who use chlorpyrifos for critical uses in agriculture, biosecurity, or under permit. We are undertaking this so we can better understand the use patterns of chlorpyrifos before we make a Proposed Regulatory Decision on these use patterns.
To participate, see our consultation page.
For products with combination domestic and agricultural uses, domestic uses must be removed from the label through an application to the APVMA. Retailers and distributors can contact the manufacturer for advice on which chlorpyrifos products are affected by the proposed decision.
More information on the proposed decision and how to make a submission is available on our website.
