The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) has released its latest performance report, finalising 99% of pesticides and veterinary medicines product applications within statutory timeframes during the March quarter 2021.

Of the pesticides applications requiring major assessment, 98% were completed within timeframe, holding steady from the 99% recorded in December quarter 2020. The rate of veterinary medicines applications requiring major assessment and completed within timeframe increased to 95% this quarter, ahead of the 93% recorded in December quarter 2020.

The percentage of permit applications completed within timeframe decreased from 75% in December quarter 2020 to 70% in March quarter 2021. This was attributed to the APVMA dedicating more resources to support the timely processing of emergency use permits to assist with current outbreaks of pests including fall armyworm, khapra beetle, fruit fly and mice.
