The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) has opened consultation on the draft Strategic Plan 2025–30, outlining the organisation’s priorities and performance measures for the next 5 years.

Stakeholders are encouraged to review the plan and provide feedback on its 5 strategic pillars and the proposed performance measures that will track progress.

The Strategic Plan 2025–30 reflects our commitment to being a trusted, modern and responsive regulator. The plan sets out clear strategic priorities to support Australia’s agricultural and veterinary sectors while protecting the health and safety of people, animals, the environment, and trade. Your insights will help ensure the plan aligns with stakeholder expectations and positions the APVMA to meet emerging challenges effectively.

The Strategic Plan focuses on 5 key pillars:

  1. Being a trusted, transparent and fair regulator
  2. Support a contemporary regulatory system
  3. Building foresight capability
  4. Striving for operational excellence
  5. Attracting, developing and retaining talented people

Delivery of an updated and balanced performance framework for the APVMA, with new measures, is also an identified action for the APVMA arising from the Australian Government’s Detailed response to the Rapid Evaluation of the APVMA’s structure and governance and other reviews. We are consulting stakeholders so we can be satisfied that we have developed outcome-focused performance indicators which reflect the full range of our regulatory responsibilities, and drive us to achieve our strategic objectives.

Public consultation on the draft Strategic Plan 2025–30 is open until Wednesday 30 April 2025.
