The APVMA is considering an application for approval of a new source of the existing active constituent iodomethane and registration of the product MIPIC 990 Soil Fumigant, containing 990 g/kg iodomethane, as a liquid (LD) formulation. The product is intended for the control of weed seeds, nematodes and soil-borne diseases prior to planting strawberry runners.
We invite comment from 6 September 2022 to 4 October 2022 on whether registration of the product should be granted.
The APVMA is able to consider comments relating to the legislative grounds, including:
- occupational health and safety
- public health
- chemistry and manufacture
- residues in food
- environmental safety
- trade
- efficacy and target crop safety.

The APVMA sought comments from interested stakeholders on the evaluation of iodomethane in the product MIPIC 990 Soil Fumigant, in a consultation that closed on 4 October 2022.
Six submissions were received from industry groups. A copy of the published submissions, where consent to publish was provided, is available on our website.
