In March 1999, the APVMA released the Parathion-methyl interim review report. The APVMA concluded that there were concerns about some existing use patterns for parathion-methyl but indicated that there was insufficient information to finalise the review.

In December 1999, the APVMA requested additional data to fill identified data gaps and implemented an interim use regime. The interim use regime restricted the use of parathion-methyl to reduce or eliminate the potential risk to workers and to the environment while the additional data were being generated.
