On 1 November 1994 the APVMA (then the NRA) invited the public to nominate active constituents, chemical products or labels for consideration for review. Of the 600 chemical nominations, 80 were included in the priority candidate review list published in the Gazette on 2 May 1995, including diquat active constituents, chemical products and labels.
On 2 December 1997, the APVMA included diquat in the list of seven chemicals selected for the third cycle of the Existing Chemicals Review Program. The deadline for submissions was 31 May 1998. This deadline was extended to 30 September 1998 as published in the Gazette on 7 April 1998.
The scope of the review included toxicology, work health and safety, chemistry, residues and environment. The work plan was first published on 1 July 2015.
The s 32 notice of reconsideration was given to holders in October 1997.
The notice of reconsideration was published in the Gazette on 2 December 1997.
Additional s 32 notices were sent to holders on 1 July 2015 to include all approved actives and registered products in the review.
When the all the component risk assessments have been completed, the proposed regulatory decisions will be drafted.
Publication of the proposed regulatory decision is expected by August 2021.
The legislated timeframe for this activity is three months.
Following the close of the public consultation period, and consideration of submissions received, the final regulatory decision will be published.
The implementation period will begin on the date the final regulatory decision is made.
