Our engagement approach
The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) aspires to be a global leader in agricultural and veterinary (agvet) chemicals regulation for the benefit of Australia. This vision is built on meaningful stakeholder engagement and strong partnerships, recognising that our regulatory decisions affect a diverse range of people, businesses, and organisations.
Our engagement model
In 2025, the APVMA completed a review and consultation of its engagement practices and has established 3 new groups, replacing the previous Consultative Forum and Agvet Users Forum.
Our engagements are structured across 3 levels:
- Strategic – APVMA Advisory Group and the National Registration Scheme (NRS) Advisory Group.
- Operational – Agricultural Chemical and Veterinary Medicine Working Groups.
- Informational – Registrants Information Update and From Farm to Family – your agvet news.
The National Registration Scheme (NRS) Advisory Group
Previously known as the Registration Liaison Forum, the NRS Advisory Group includes all state and territory governments. It looks at the outcomes of APVMA’s regulatory scene and those of state and territory regulations, and how all parties together achieve the requirements under the NRS.
The group also focuses on the touchpoints between regulation and control of use and provides an opportunity for state and territory governments to provide feedback on how the APVMA can improve labels and provides an opportunity to ensure the labels the APVMA is proposing are enforceable in each state.
APVMA Advisory Group
The APVMA Advisory Group provides expert advice and stakeholder perspectives to the APVMA on matters relating to the statutory criteria of safety, efficacy, trade, and labelling in the regulation of agricultural and veterinary chemicals.
Agricultural Chemicals and Veterinary Chemicals Working Groups
A working group for agricultural chemicals and a working group for veterinary medicines facilitates engagement between the APVMA and registrants, permit holders, other fee payers and their representatives on practical and operational matters related to the regulation of agricultural chemicals and veterinary medicines.
Registrant updates
The APVMA provides an open information briefing, targeted to regulated entities, but open to all. Sessions are held virtually as a webinar style event, as needed to provide updates on specific topics by APVMA subject matter experts.
We also provide regular updates and news through our news centre.
From Farm to Family – your agvet news
The APVMA provides updates on what’s changing in the agvet chemical space, targeted to all those who use agvet chemicals. From our rural communities and farmers, through to our homes, families and pets.
Sessions are held virtually as a webinar style event, as needed to provide updates by APVMA subject matter experts. We also regularly share information through our news centre and social media channels.
Public consultations
The APVMA seeks input from interested stakeholders throughout chemical registrations, reviews and other APVMA operational and regulatory processes. All open consultations are listed on our website.
