The consultation received 42 submissions, which can be grouped into three categories.

  1. 36% asked for additional time to prepare a response for each active;
  2. 71% included information about critical uses; and,
  3. 12% provided worker exposure information.

As part of the review process for each active under review, a three-month public consultation will follow the publication of the proposed regulatory decision. This consultation, which will be published in the Gazette, provides a further opportunity to comment on the specific proposed decisions for each active. Invitation for submissions—critical uses

The APVMA is reviewing critical agricultural, biosecurity, and permitted uses of active ingredients currently review before we make a proposed decision on the use patterns for these products. Agricultural uses include veterinary medicines used for livestock. A critical use is one where no alternative products exist.

The active ingredients are:

  • 2,4-D
  • Chlorpyrifos
  • Diazinon
  • Diquat
  • Fenitrothion
  • Fipronil
  • Malathion
  • Methidathion
  • Neomycin
  • Paraquat
  • Procymidone

The APVMA invites written submissions on the critical uses of active ingredients currently under review. The APVMA will use these submissions to inform our proposed regulatory decisions for these actives.

Preparing your comments for submission

When writing your submission:

  • clearly identify the use patterns and state your point of view
  • give reasons for your comments, supporting them with relevant evidence and indicating the source of the evidence you have used
  • suggest to the APVMA any alternative solution you may have for the issue.

Please structure your comments in numbered form, referring each point to the relevant section in the report.

All submissions to the APVMA that include a valid email address will be acknowledged electronically. Submissions will be published (in whole or summary) in a post-consultation report.

When making a submission please include:

  • contact name
  • company or group name, and role within the organisation (if relevant)
  • postal address
  • email address
  • the date.

Note that all submissions received are subject to the Freedom of Information Act 1982, the Privacy Act 1988 and the Agvet Codes. In providing your submission to the APVMA you agree to the APVMA publicly disclosing your submission in whole or summary form.
