The APVMA Advisory Group provides expert advice and stakeholder perspectives to the APVMA on matters relating to the statutory criteria of safety, efficacy, trade, and labelling in the regulation of agricultural and veterinary chemicals.

Purpose

The group will facilitate collaboration between key representatives from public health, occupational health and safety, environmental protection, trade, animal health, and industry to ensure that regulatory decisions are informed by a broad range of expertise and practical insights.

Through regular engagement, the advisory group will support risk-based decision making, and enhance transparency and trust in the agvet chemical regulation process.

Eligibility criteria

Interested individuals or organisations may submit an expression of interest at any time. 

Applicants must:

  • Have relevant expertise or experience in one or more of the following areas related to agvet chemical regulation:
    • Public health
    • Occupational health and safety
    • Environmental protection
    • Trade
    • Animal health (veterinary medicines or non-target species safety)
    • Point of sale
    • Efficacy (veterinary chemicals or agricultural chemicals) 
    • Agvet chemical industry
  • Represent a key stakeholder group within the sector (e.g., professional associations, industry bodies, academic institutions, or relevant organisations).
  • Demonstrate an understanding of regulatory frameworks related to agricultural and veterinary chemicals, including safety, efficacy, trade, and labelling considerations.
  • Commit to active participation, including attending meetings, reviewing materials, and contributing to discussions in a constructive and informed manner.

Expression of Interest (EOI) submission requirements

Interested individuals should submit:

  • A cover letter (maximum 2 pages) outlining:
    • their interest in joining the advisory group
    • their relevant expertise, experience, and stakeholder representation
    • how they can contribute to discussions on the statutory criteria (safety, efficacy, trade, and labelling)
    • any potential conflicts of interest and how they would be managed.
  • A current CV highlighting relevant professional experience, qualifications, and affiliations.

Assessment criteria

EOIs will be assessed based on:

  • alignment with the advisory group’s purpose and scope
  • demonstrated expertise and experience in a relevant field
  • ability to contribute constructively and engage with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • diversity of representation across sectors to ensure balanced perspectives.

Final appointments will be made by the APVMA.
