In addition to the standard labelling requirements, labels on teat dips and sprays must also carry the following information, as applicable.

6.5. Dosage and administration

All labels for teat dips and sprays must include the following dosage and administration statements, where applicable.

6.5.1. For all teat dips and sprays

Ensure teats are CLEAN and DRY before milking to reduce organic and bacterial contaminations and reduce the possibility of residue in the milk. If washing is required for heavily soiled udders or teats, ensure they are properly dried.
Mix/use fresh solutions daily. Do not top up solutions made up on/used the previous day.
Thoroughly spray or dip all teats after every milking as follows:

  • SPRAY: Spray upwards from underneath the teats, not from the side, and ensure the whole surface of each teat is covered.
  • DIP: Clean out dip cup as teat dip gets low. Do not top up the dip cup.

In addition to the statements above, the following statements must be included for products containing the following actives:

6.5.2. Iodine

To make a minimum of 0.5% available iodine in the final solution, dilute [x] parts of [product] in [y] parts water.
DIP: Use a plastic or other non-metal type container for iodine solutions.

6.5.3. Chlorhexidine

To make a minimum of 0.5% available chlorhexidine in the final solution, dilute [x] parts of [product] in [y] parts water.

6.5.3.1. OR, if emollient is added

The following statement must be used instead:

dilute [x] parts of [product] in [y] parts water and [z] parts of emollient.

Note that emollient may only be included to a maximum of 10% of the final solution and the quality of water and emollient must be specified (for example, cooled boiled tap water or very clean potable water; food-grade glycerine).
