The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) has published the APVMA Strategy 2030, which sets out the themes and strategic outcomes required to drive the authority’s decision making and priorities into the future.
The Strategy will inform the APVMA’s future Corporate Plans and Portfolio Budget Statements and demonstrates how the APVMA – in its role as the regulator of agriculture and veterinary (agvet) chemicals – will work to protect Australia’s trade and the health and safety of people, animals and the environment.
The Strategy is not a static plan and has been designed to evolve over 3 horizons, based on feedback and other changes in the APVMA’s operating environment.
APVMA Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mr Wayne Terpstra, said the Strategy will support the APVMA to reinforce its reputation as a global leader in agvet chemical regulation for the benefit of Australia.
“As we continue to consolidate the APVMA’s reputation as a world-leading agvet chemical regulator, we must build upon the strong foundation needed to meet the challenges of the future,” said Mr Terpstra.
“The APVMA Strategy 2030 will change and adapt to support us to meet these challenges, so we can strengthen our capability to manage increasingly complex regulatory risks, embrace opportunities for improvement, and respond to ever-changing global events.
“We acknowledge the challenges the APVMA has experienced in recent years, and the Strategy will support our agency to move forward and build on the changes we have already introduced to strengthen the culture and operations of the APVMA.”
An implementation plan has been developed to support delivery of the outcomes for horizon one and may change as the Strategy evolves.
The APVMA Strategy 2023 and implementation plan are available on the APVMA website.
