Guidance on assessment and registration of anti-fouling paints

Anti-fouling paint is used on underwater structures, including the hulls of boats, to prevent the settlement and growth of unwanted marine organisms.

In Australia, the sale and supply of anti-fouling paints is regulated by the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA):

  • The active constituents of anti-fouling paints must be approved by the APVMA
  • Anti-fouling paints are required to be registered by the APVMA
